Leland Ray Grossman, 60 of Harvey was found at his home where he died of natural causes on Thursday February 17, 2011.
Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey on Wednesday 23, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 22, from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Prayer services will be on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey. Burial will be held at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery of Anamoose.
Leland was born on January 30, 1951 in Harvey, North Dakota. He was the son of Harry and Juanita (Holland) Grossman. Leland grew up and attended school in Anamoose and graduated from Anamoose High School in 1969. Leland entered the army in May 1970 and served two tours in Vietnam before he was honorably discharged in May 1973. Following his discharge he attended college in Massachusetts and graduated with a history teaching degree. Leland worked many different jobs over the years including on an offshore oil rig. Leland was once married to Terry Bigea. They had two children, Bree Grossman and Christopher Grossman. Leland moved back to North Dakota in the early 1990's. Leland worked for Harvey Farmers Elevator and was very happy with his job and his elevator family. Leland was an accomplished artist and a wonderful musician, and a budding inventor. Leland is survived by his daughter, Bree Grossman and son, Christopher Grossman; two brothers, Leo (Joan) Grossman and Francis Grossman all of Harvey; sister, Kathleen Chamberlin of Warrenville, Illinois; nephew, Mason; nieces, Tiffany and Melinda; special friends, Mary and Bernie Hall of Harvey. Leland was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, David Grossman.
