Leela Sprenger, 76, of New Rockford formerly of Anamoose died Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at the Lutheran Home of The Good Sheperd in New Rockford.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Martin Lutheran Church of Anamoose, ND on Monday, October 5, 2026 at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to service time.

Burial will be in the Lincoln Dale Cemetery, rural Denhoff, North Dakota

Leela was born on April 11, 1950 in Harvey, ND. She was the daughter of August Jr. and Lillian Ann (Bayer) Miiller. She was raised on the family farm south of Anamoose. Leela was baptized and confirmed at the St. Martin’s Lutheran Church of Anamoose. She graduated from the Anamoose Public School in 1969. Following high school, she worked road construction, and ranch for Nick Leier. Leela married Harold Sprenger on November 4, 1977, they made their home on the Sprenger homestead north of Lincoln Valley. They had one daughter Joanne born in 1979. Harold passed away in 1999. Leela planted trees for Sheridan County from 1986 until 2005. She then went to work for the Anamoose Public School as a janitor. Leela moved back to the family farm to live with her mother in 1999.

Leela liked to put puzzles together. In 2009 she started working with wood and made many crafts, she also collected stamps. Leela was a member of the St. Martin Lutheran Church of Anamoose, VFW auxiliary of Anamoose and Eagles auxiliary in Harvey. Leela entered the nursing home in New Rockford in December of 2022. Leela is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Rod) Held of Anamoose, grandchildren, Tierra (Kobie) of Sawyer, AJ, Rachel Held of Anamoose; two great-grandchildren, Jeren and Jerome; sister, Julie Ponzer of New Salem; brother, Lloyd Miiller of Hazen, Leon (Hilda) Miiller of Borup, Minnesota.

Leela was preceded in death by her parents; husband; step-son, Charles Burkart; brothers, Jeral, Arlen, and Bob. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey.
