Obituary

Leah Gumeringer 79 of Esmond died Thursday January 30, 2014 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey on Tuesday February 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey and one hour prior to the service on at the church. There will be no prayer or rosary service the night prior to the mass.

Burial will be in the church cemetery immediately after the funeral mass.

Leah was born on December 29, 1934 in Selz, ND. She was the daughter of Anton and Mary (Volk) Gisi. Leah was raised on the family farm near Selz. She attended school in Selz and graduated from high school in 1952 from the St. James Academy in New Rockford. On June 14, 1954 she married Edmund J. Gumeringer at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Selz. Together they raised their four children on the family farm near Esmond.

Leah worked in the nursing profession for 37 years in Harvey, Rugby and New Rockford. She started as a CNA then became a LPN, and then a RN. Leah graduated from the Trinity School of Nursing in 1984.

She was an avid organic gardener, reader, and devoted church volunteer. Leah was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey. Her favorite scripture readings were Matthew 16:18-19 and John 6. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend.

Leah is survived by her husband, Edmund of Esmond; son, Ron (Toni) Gumeringer of Bismarck; daughters, Kathy Gumeringer of Esmond,JoAnn (Jim) Gurard of Bismarck, Jackie (Darwin) Subart of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Leon of Harvey, John of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, JoAnn Trom of Grand Rapids, MN, Margaret Willard of Barnesville, MN, Rita Doering of Minot, Mary Jane Lueck of Lidgerwood, ND.

Leah was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Marvin and Jim Gisi.
