Lawrence Richard Lautt, age 82, passed away August 10, 2011 at St. Aloisius Hospital. Lawrence, son of August A. and Marie (Seibel) Lautt, was born March 11, 1929, at St. Aloisius Hospital of Harvey, ND. He lived his entire life in the Harvey area. He attended many different country schools due to the number of pupils in each township. He graduated from Harvey High School in May 1949. He raised beef cattle, milked cows for many years, and farmed. He worked 10 years with Curtis Breeding Service, and later for Minnesota Valley Breeders. He was always interested in improving the blood lines in his own and other people's herds. Lawrence and Delores moved to Harvey in 1984. Lawrence enjoyed people. He never failed to joke with them and visit with them. Lawrence learned a lot about people by asking many questions about them and their family ties, as well as what was going on in their lives. After he semi-retired from farming, he started to work at Lautt's Feed and Rental. At first it was only part-time but soon he was a full-time employee. He really enjoyed his job and made many friends. His daily routine of going to the bank, post office, and other business places gave him the opportunity to visit with some of his favorite people. He worked at his job until two days before he entered the hospital on July 3rd. In his earlier years he held offices in his township. He was Wells County Commissioner for 16 years. At age 18, upon confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, he was baptized and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. He was a faithful worker and held many different offices during his 64 years as a member. On May 19, 1976 he joined the Gideons International, an organization that distributes Bibles in hotels and motels and testaments in schools. He was very active in this work and held many different offices. He especially enjoyed passing out testaments in the schools. Lawrence married Delores Frueh on June 8, 1949. This past summer they reached the milestone of 62 years together. He was a loving and caring partner. To this union, four children were born: Marcia (Darrell) Fiesel, Bryan (Marilyn) Lautt, Richard Jaymes (died in infancy) and David (Diana) Lautt. They had 10 grandchildren: Amy (Sam) Ongstad, Curtis Lautt (deceased), Casey Lautt, Justin (Tarrand) Fiesel, Jason (Amber) Fiesel, Cory (Karissa) Lautt, Jayme (Aaron) Walsh, Wyatt Lautt, McKenzie Lautt, and Olivia Lautt. Great-grandchildren include: Matthew Ongstad (Sam and Amy), Becca and James (Justin and Tarrand). He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. He was always interested in how they were doing. He taught his grandchildren many things – good values and responsibility, as well as how to enjoy a good sense of humor and a bit of mischief. Grandpa Lawrence was the best taxi driver the grandkids could have. A joyous occasion, the birth of his third great-grandchild, occurred the first day of his last hospitalization. Lawrence was preceded in death by his mother and father; his four brothers, John, Eddie, Raymond, and Ernest; one sister Anna; his infant son of 10 days; and one grandson, Curtis. He was the youngest in this family and the only remaining sibling. He left many nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Lora Lautt
