Obituary

LaVern Liebelt 85 of Harvey died Thursday September 2, 2010 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey. Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran Church of Harvey on Monday September 6 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Mennonite Brethren Country Cemetery, Harvey, ND.

LaVern was born on February 24, 1925 on the family farm southwest of Harvey. He was the son of Gust and Josephine (Winter) Liebelt. He attended the Fairview Township rural school. He started farming south of Anamoose in 1945. LaVern married Eunice Seibel on May 24, 1946 in Hillsboro, KS. The family moved to a farm southwest of Harvey in 1951. LaVern and Eunice had four children, Paulette, LaMont, Randy and Londa. Eunice died on June 4, 1971. He married Esther Thorpe on January 16, 1972 at the Raugust farmstead, southwest of Harvey. They lived on the Liebelt farm until 1986 when he retired and they moved into Harvey. Esther died on March 24, 2003. He then married Ruby Lang on October 26, 2003 in Harvey. They lived in Minot for a short time. Ruby died on November 10, 2005. LaVern returned to Harvey where he had lived in an apartment until recently entering the St. Aloisius Nursing Home. LaVern enjoyed having coffee with all his friends in the local cafes and will be remembered for his sense of humor.

LaVern is survived by two daughters, Paulette (Brad) Freeman, Omaha, Nebraska, Londa (Paul) Bentz of Bismarck, ND; two sons, Randy (Charlotte) Liebelt of Satanta, KS, LaMont (JoAnn) Bokovoy, International Falls, MN; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Leppke, Hillsboro, KS; brother, Merle Liebelt, Modesto, CA, special friends, Bernice Filler of Harvey, Abe and Darlene Abel of Minot. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Eunice, Esther and Ruby; sister, Bernice Hovland; grandson, Brad Bokovoy.
