Obituary

LaVella Seibel Hirschkorn Faul, 94 of Harvey died Wednesday May 8, 2019 at the St. Aloisius Hospital of Harvey after a short illness.  Funeral services will be held at the Cornerstone Community Church South Campus on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.  Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.  Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.

LaVella was born on March 5, 1925 on a farm in Sheridan County southwest of Harvey, ND.  She was the daughter of Samuel and Marie (Zelmer) Seibel.  She grew up and attended country school and later attended the Harvey High School.  On September 17, 1944 she married Delmer Hirschkorn.  They moved to a farm in Sheridan County and she became a homemaker.  They had two children, a son Larry Hirschkorn and a daughter Gloriann Hirschkorn.  They farmed for many years until Delmer passed away on January 25, 1975.  On September 5, 1976 she married Jake Faul, Jr.  They lived on Jake's farm for several years and then moved to Harvey.  They enjoyed traveling and visiting relatives.  Jake died on June 28, 1997. Lavella continued living in Harvey and eventually moved to the Harvey Senior Apartments and lived there until her death.

Lavella was a talented seamstress, making many attendant and bridesmaid dresses and sewing quilts.  She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren when they got married.  She also did staining and varnishing of woodwork in the houses that her brother Wesley built in Kansas.  She was a talented singer, singing in the Ladies Choir and the Choir in the church.  She also sang in various duets, trios and quartets.  She was an avid fan of the Legacy 5 gospel men's quartet and followed them all around the country.  She bought every CD and DVD they ever produced.  The band knew her on a personal level.  She loved to read and work on crossword puzzles and word finds.

Lavella was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and looked forward to meeting Him one day.  She was a lifelong member of the Cornerstone Community Church formerly the City Mennonite Brethren Church.

Lavella is survived by her son Larry (JoAnn) Hirschkorn of Crestview, FL, her daughter, Gloriann (Tom) Shocklee of Colorado Springs, CO; two stepsons, Ronald (Jane) Faul of Harvey, ND and Marvin (Kimberly) Faul of Fargo, ND; three step daughters, Carol (Ron) Reimche of Harvey, ND, Doretta Wiebe of Morden, Manitoba, Canada and Penny (Bill) Sauter of Hazen, ND; brother, Ralph Seibel of Fort Benton, Montana; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Lavella was preceded in death by both her husbands, Delmer Hirschkorn and Jake Faul, Jr.; her father Samuel and mother Marie; brothers Archie and Wesley and sisters Elsie and Janice; daughter-in-law, Lillian Hirschkorn; step son-in-law, Elmer Wiebe.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Cornerstone Community Church.
