Larry was born on December 3, 1938, at Bowdon, ND. He was the son of Ray and Selma (Johnson) Fike. The family lived in Bowdon and then Chaseley. He attended grade school in Chaseley and high school for a couple of years in Bowdon. Larry went to Hansen Trade School in Fargo. He moved back to Bowdon at the age of 18 and started driving truck for Clinton Krause and hauled cattle out of Canada. Larry then met the love of his life, Myrna Johnson and they were married on September 19, 1959 in Chaseley, ND. They lived in Chaseley and then Jamestown before buying his first gravel truck. He hauled in the Harvey area including base gravel for what most recently was called B-52 Bar and Grill and Lanes. They moved to Harvey in 1964. He eventually added 10 more trucks to haul grain and 4 more trucks to haul milk. Larry worked for Martin Stumpf for several years. He helped haul product during the flood of 1969 in Minot. Larry also hauled cattle with his partner Dale Kost. In May of 1978 he started his biggest adventure, a gravel crushing business in ND eventually moving the business to Sidney, Montana. He operated it for the next 35 years. He was a pilot and flew back and forth to Montana managing the business. He then sold the business to his son Rick and daughter Kathy. In the summers he would go to Canada fishing with his good friend Tom McKinven. In the winters he and Myrna spent time in Bullhead City, and Yuma, Arizona.
Larry made sure he taught his son's everything he knew about trucks, engines, equipment and construction. He also made sure his daughter received her degree in business providing her with the background as the business manager at the Sidney location.
