Kent Carlyle Alderin, 63, passed away peacefully at home in McClusky, ND, on October 31, surrounded by family.

Kent was born in Mandan, ND, on November 9, 1954 to Kenneth and Cora Alderin. Kent was raised on the family farm near Fort Clark, North Dakota. He graduated from Stanton High School in 1972. After a year of college, Kent enlisted in the Navy where he served on the USS Tullibee for three years. After completing his service, Kent and his family returned to North Dakota where he completed his bachelor's degree in animal science at North Dakota State University.

Kent met Janet at an Organic Crop Improvement Association conference in Antigua, Guatemala. They were married in December 2000.

Kent pursued various careers including County Extension Agent for Sheridan County for 14 years, Deputy Sheriff in Sheridan County, farming, and ranching. He also sheared sheep for 40 years. He also built a successful commercial trucking business, Coteau Hills Enterprises.

Kent was a knowledgeable farmer, who often used innovative new practices before their time. He was often happiest among his herds of cattle that he tended throughout his life. Kent loved dancing, hunting, and making his homemade honey mead.

Kent is survived by his wife, Janet; his sons Ryan (June), Linton; Erik (Alison), Screven, GA; and Adam (Lori), Littleton, NH; stepdaughter Cathy Kottwitz (Jason Troy), Lincoln, NE; and stepdaughter-in-law Ashli Kottwitz, Hermitage, TN; sister Vickie (Todd) Lasher, McClusky; brothers Lee (Dawn) and Charles (Janet), Fort Clark; Russell (JoAnn), Muscatine, IA; and half-sister Sjonia (Roger) Davis, Moorhead, IA; 9 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Assembly of God Church in McClusky, ND.
