Kathey (Kathryn) Keller, 67, of Harvey, ND died Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.
A Memorial service will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Harvey on Sunday, February 11 at 2:30PM.
Kathey was born on January 21, 1956, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Gabe (Goat) and Billie Ruth (Parris) Medlin. Kathey grew up and attended school in Tahlequah and Hulbert, Oklahoma. Kathey attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK and East Central University in Ada, OK where her daughter Crystal was born. She held several positions with the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. While working for the Cherokee Nation she worked for Wilma Mankiller, Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Kathey then moved to Oregon and continued to work in the health care field. Kathey married Tim Keller on September 4, 1998. Kathey helped Tim raise his two children, Christina and Adam, and had many wonderful and cherished friends she considered family in Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Virginia.
Kathey and Tim moved to Harvey in 2013 and Kathey purchased the Perfect Petals Flower Shop. Kathey owned and operated Perfect Petals Flower Shop since January 2013 and started Ta Ahni Coffee Shop in April of 2013 with her 'bonus sister and best friend' Wanda Sorenson. She was very well known for her unique and meticulous flower arrangements, working under pressure, and an ever-present positive attitude. She had many interests including painting, jewelry design and creation, cooking and many others. Kathey was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Eagles Auxiliary, Harvey Senior Citizens, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was an avid Old Time Gospel music fan and in her younger years toured with a Gospel Group in Oklahoma. She was well known for her ever generous, loving and caring spirit and her never ending gift of support to anyone in need.
Kathey is survived by her husband Tim; daughters Crystal (Mark) Hansen and Christina (Ryan) Heckart; sons Adam (Sarah) Keller, U.G. (Tana) Turney, sisters Freda Medlin and Regina (James) Martin-Smith; brother Donald Medlin; granddaughters Samantha Harris, Kyla Hansen, Bethany (Yaakov) Green, Olivia Heckart and Madelyn (Mady) Keller; grandson's Tyler Turney, James (Sammy Jo) Turney and Payton Keller.
She is also survived by Aunts Janet Parris, Bertha Medlin, Sally Berry, Irma Lee Moore, Uncle Jerry (Karen) Parris, numerous nephews and nieces, and all of her honorary kids from Chemawa Indian school in Oregon. Kathey is also survived by her father-in-law Adam Keller, brothers-in-law Tom (Diane) Keller and Rick (Sandra) Keller; sisters-in-law Peggy (Charlie) Bauslaugh, Zita (Tony) Dietz, Tammy (Larry) Krein, Deb (Kelly) Bentz and Lisa (Ed) James, and all of their families.
Kathey is preceded in passing by her parents, brother Ronald, great nephew Jake Medlin, great niece Brittlee Medlin, numerous aunts and uncles, and best friend Mandy Sue Harjo. She is also preceded in death by her mother-in-law Barbara Keller, brother-in-law Ron Keller, and many of Tim's aunts, uncles, and relatives.
The family asks that instead of flowers, Plants, and donations, that Memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Foundation, and MIA/POW Foundation to help our Brave men and women who have served our country recover, and that no one EVER gets left behind. We also ask that you help support the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People campaign to help put an end to the atrocities that are occurring across this country toward our country's Indigenous population.
