Katherine "Katie" Olson, 87 of Harvey died Sunday, May 26, 2019 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 30 at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND. The graveside will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
Katherine "Katie" was born on March 21, 1932 on the family farm near Drake, ND. She was the youngest of nine children born to Jacob and Elizabeth (Kramer) Duchscherer. She grew up there and attended the Smokey Lake Township School through the eighth grade. She moved into Drake and worked at a café. Katie married Bernhard G. Bromley on October 27, 1950. They had two children, Roland (Ron) and an infant daughter Susan who passed away shortly after her birth. They farmed in Round Lake Township. Bernhard died in a farm accident on May 6, 1970. Katie then maintained the farm with her son Ron for several years after. She later met Arden Olson and they were married on October 8, 1977 and made their home in Harvey. She worked at the Warehouse Grocery and at the Eagles Club.
Together they thoroughly enjoyed their blended family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Katie was an avid Twins fan and enjoyed time at the local casinos. She made many beautiful embroidery projects for family and friends. She especially enjoyed working in her flower gardens. Katie was an active member of the First Lutheran Church and was a member of and past President of the Wells Eagles Aerie Auxiliary.
Katie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Arden of Harvey; son, Ron (Toni) Bromley of Drake; stepson, Keith (Deb) Olson of Harvey and stepdaughter Karen Holte of Watford City; 6 grandchildren, Kathleen (Bromley) Leier, Andy (Dani) Bromley, Shawn (Alicia) Olson, Samantha (Tom) Rupp, Landon Holte, Casey (Paula) Holte; 11 great-grandchildren, Alex, Logan and Jace Leier; Brooke Bromley; Camden and Adleigh Olson; Atlas Rupp; Carter, Henry, Cruz and Collins Holte.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Bernhard; daughter Susan; siblings, Magdalena "Lena" Krim, Theresa Martin, Paul Duchscherer, Sebastian Duchscherer, Bernard Duchscherer, Angeline Bromley, Rosalie Duchscherer and Ann Duchscherer.
