Obituary

Julian F. Olson, 79, rural Harvey went to the Lord at his rural home surrounded by his wife and family on Tuesday morning August 21, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 27 at Trinity Bethany Lutheran Church, Harvey.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Julian Fowler Olson was born 11/25/1932 to Helmer and Matilda (Christenson) Olson on a farm near Wellsburg, N.D. He attended Arne School in Benson Co. After graduating from the 8th grade, he helped his brother farm for several years.

Julian married the love of his life, Jane Georgeson on September 4, 1955 in Esmond, ND. Julian worked for Armour & Co. in Fargo before entering the United States Army in 1956. He went through basic training in Fort Gordon, GA. During his time in the Army, Julian served as an M.P. and also a prison guard at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Julian was honorably discharged from the Army on May 1, 1958. Julian received the Good Conduct Medal for his service. From the time of his discharge, until 1962 he was active in the U.S. Army Corps Reserve. Julian then worked at a cement block factory and also in elevator construction in the following years. He then helped his brother farm near Heimdal before moving to his own farmstead in 1971. Julian then farmed and ranched near Harvey until his retirement in 2002. During his time as a farmer/rancher, Julian held jobs such as truck driving, cattle hauling, horse trading, scrap hauling and was employed at the Harvey Livestock for 9 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane (Georgeson), son Joel (Cheryl), Sidney MT; two daughters, Jean Hauser of Martin, ND and Joan (Dan) Alfstad of Sheyenne, ND; brother, Noran of Minot; and three sisters Mavis Ambers of Minot, Jeanette Knote of Billings, MT, and Marlys Chrissis of Dilworth, MN. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Julian was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Norman and Harley; three sisters Hilda Gjoshlin, Lillian Fossen and Inez Steinmetz.
