He also worked for Orrin Holen at Holen Construction driving heavy equipment, which he truly loved to do. He spent seven years in the Army Reserves, which was quite an experience for him, being a farm boy.

They had three children: Shiree and husband Paul Wolff and their children Mark and John; Rebecca and husband Matthew Fischer and their children Morgen and Emma; Kim and wife Jennifer and their children Landon, Ethan and Rubie. In 1965, Jake with his brother Tom, started farming the family farm as "Saueressig Brothers. In 2012, Jakes son Kim took over the operation. The farm was celebrated as being a "Centennial Farm" in 2018.
Jake was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was a member of the McClusky Rural – City Fire department for over 50 years and served on the board of the McClusky Co-op Elevator. Jake was very proud to be a part of the McClusky community.
In more recent years Jake enjoyed traveling a bit with Marilyn and family but was always happiest when at home on the farm. In his younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling and loud pipes. He enjoyed cruising the country with his side by side, always with a smile on his face.
His family and farming were Jake's life. He was ever ready to help his neighbors and friends. He loved to visit and was so proud of his children and grandchildren.
Jake will be dearly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
