Joann Vietz, 86, of rural Denhoff died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at her daughter's home in Rugby where she was receiving hospice care.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday June 13 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Mandan, ND.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Burial will be in the Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery, Goodrich, ND.
Joann was born on November 30, 1929 in Craig, Nebraska to Charles Louis Davis and Lenora (Hubbell) Davis. Joann's dad, Charles died in 1933. Lenora raised 5 children as a widow until she married John Brinley who graciously loved Joann and all her siblings as his own. Joann loved her step dad's banjo playing, blue grass music and singing, especially the "Mountain Dew Song". Joann graduated High School in 1948 from Omaha, Nebraska. Attended Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. She graduated with a teaching certificate. Joann taught for 11 years at church schools in small towns in rural central North Dakota. Joann met "the apple of her eye", James Vietz from Denhoff, ND in March of 1959. They were united in marriage on June 26, 1960. James passed away on October 13, 2007. They were married for 47 years. Joann was a member of the Goodrich Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as Treasurer for several years. Anyone that knew Joann, knows of her beautiful smile and those bright, pretty blue eyes. Her smile was so welcoming and comforting to all. Joann loved her family tremendously! Joann had a graceful, kind, caring and loving personality. She truly enjoyed life, loved to have fun, tease and joke with the best. She was very witty. Joann loved the Lord and her faith was the strongest of anyone. She always put others' needs ahead of her own. Always willing to give! She loved all the children she taught and to this day many comment that Joann was so loving to them. Joann had a special way of engaging children to have fun with learning. Joann was an avid reader and always liked to give her brain a "challenge". She also enjoyed gardening, music, singing and visiting. Joann had a very special bond with her 3 grandsons and she loved them dearly.
Joann is survived by daughters, Karen Vietz; (Terry Anderson) of Oregonia, Ohio, Vicky (Aaron) Reile of Rugby, ND; son, Kevin Vietz of Denhoff, ND; three grandsons, Cole and Dalton Vietz-Reile, Jaedon Vanderiet; sisters in law, Jean Davis, Lincoln NE; Dorothy Vietz, Missoula, Montana; Wilma Vietz, Bismarck ND; Loretta Halvorson, California; nieces, nephews, cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Louis Davis, Lenora and John Brinley; sisters, Marilyn Dee Christensen; Louise Saup; brothers, Charles Earl Davis; Darrell Louis Davis. Joann passed away at her daughter's home in Rugby, ND on June 7, 2016. Blessed be the memory of Joann Vietz.
