James Haux, 74, McClusky, ND died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at Grace Lutheran Church, McClusky. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Lutheran Church followed by a public prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church.
James Olaf Haux was born on March 22, 1943 in Minot, ND. He was the son of Johnnie and Cora (Anderson) Haux. He grew up on the family farm north of McClusky and attended country school. Jim graduated from the McClusky High School in 1961. Jim was the third generation of Haux's and Anderson's to farm the original family homesteads. Jim married Rita Grinsteiner on June 5, 1967 in Balfour. They had three children, Brenda, Kimberly and Steven. The family ran a small grains, dairy and cattle ranch, stopping all dairy operations in 1990. Jim was active in farming and ranching all his life and was proud that his son, Steven, would become the fourth generation to farm the land homesteaded over 100 years ago.
Jim was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. He served on the McClusky Rural Fire Department and was a past president and member of the McClusky Sportsman's Club. He was active in 4-H years ago, served as the township assessor for several townships and served on the county weed board in Sheridan County. He was also active on the ND Dried Pea and Lentil Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and cribbage.
Jim is survived by his wife Rita of 50 years; daughters, Brenda (Ricky) Zinke of Devils Lake, Kimberly (A.C.) Small of St. Cloud, Florida; son, Steven (Jolene) Haux of McClusky; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Stripling of Casper, Wyoming and many nieces, nephews and cousins . Jim was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Agnes Pister and Alice Pepple.
