Funeral Mass for James Louis Grad, 67, of Dickinson, will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher celebrating.
Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m., CDT, Saturday, June 28, 2014 at St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery in Harvey, ND, with Father Frank Miller celebrating.
Rosary will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson.
Visitation for Jim will be Thursday, June 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.
James passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at St. Luke's Home in Dickinson.
James Louis Grad was born January 13, 1947, son of Louie and Katherine (Selensky) Grad. He grew up and attended school, in Drake, ND. Following school, Jim moved to Dickinson. It was during this time that Jim and Bernice Thernes were married. The couple was blessed with three children: Tina, Dennis and Tammy. Jim worked for Woody's Feed for over 30 years. Jim later met his best friend, Diane Randa, and the couple has been together for nearly 15 years.
Jim had a great fascination with clocks and enjoyed tinkering with them. He also enjoyed yard work, gardening and dancing. Jim could often be found watching birds and enjoyed collecting porcelain bird figurines. He had a giving heart, providing for others whenever he could. Jim was a member of St. Wenceslas Catholic Church in Dickinson and the Eagles Club.
Jim is survived by his children, Tina (Ray) Haverluk of Glen Ullin, Dennis Grad of Oakes, and Tammy (Darin) Schumacher of Sentinel Butte; five grandchildren, Taya and Trin Schumacher, Hunter Grad, Eric Haverluk, and Avery Henke; best friend, Diane Randa; brother, Gary (JoAnn) Grad of Devils Lake; and sisters, Eleanore Grad of Harvey, Marlene Grad of Harvey and, MaryAnn (Bruce) Rheault of Rugby.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Katherine; and a nephew, Kenny Grad.
