Irene Schmaltz 81 of Minot formerly of Harvey died Thursday December 9, 2010 at the Trinity Nursing Home of Minot.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Harvey on Tuesday December 14, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Monday December 13 from 2:00p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with Prayer services to follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be held at the St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery.


Irene was born on June 4, 1929 near Selz, North Dakota. Irene was the daughter of Frank and Rosina (Fisher) Heilman. Irene grew up and attended school in Hagel Township and in Selz. Irene married Paul Schmaltz on July 29, 1946 at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Selz. They lived and farmed on the Schmaltz family farm near Selz. Irene was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church and a former member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Selz. Irene was also a member of the Christian Mother's. Irene enjoyed cooking, arranging flowers, and dancing.

Irene is survived by her husband, Paul of Minot; children, Duane (Betty) of Knoxville, Iowa, JoAnne (Raymond) Lemer of Minot; Bob (Christine) Schmaltz of Grand Forks, Leon (Renee) Schmaltz of Harvey: 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Diane Barnes of Paulden, AZ. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Heilman; brother, Victor Heilman.
