Irene Sauter, 97 of Goodrich died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31 at Peace Lutheran Church, Goodrich, ND.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Burial will be in Goodrich City Cemetery.

Irene was born on April 16, 1917 on the family farm north of Goodrich. She was the daughter of Thomas and Marie (Stoltenberg) Brakel. She grew up and attended rural school in Boone Township. As a young woman she helped on the family farm. Irene married Walter Sauter on October 4, 1937 in Fessenden. They lived and farmed near Goodrich. Irene took an active part in the daily chores on the farm. Walter died June 14, 2000. Irene continued to live on the family farm until her death.

Irene was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Goodrich. She was a charter member of the Pioneer Homemaker Club which was the first homemaker club in Sheridan County. She served on the Boone Township School Board; and as a 4-H leader. Irene was instrumental in the Brakel and Sauter family reunions. Irene enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, baking, painting, writing family history, and making scrap books.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (James) Meckle of Denhoff; sons, Jerone Sauter and Tom (Donna) Sauter both of Goodrich; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Brakel of Blooming Grove, TX.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; Brothers, Orville, Garvin, Arley, Clarence, and Raymond Brakel; sister, Vearl Hagen.
