Irene Marquart, 91, Harvey, ND died Thursday, September 12, 2024 at a Harvey Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2024 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey with burial following in the church cemetery.

Irene was born on November 24, 1932 the family farm near Wellsburg, ND to Anton and Alice (Bertsch) Goldade.  She grew up there and attended a nearby rural school.  She lived at home for a time and helped out with the chores around the house and the farm.  She married Michael Marquart on June 7, 1954.  The had three children, Gary, Kathy and Shirley and lived on a farm near Orrin.  During her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant she worked in Rugby and later moved to Harvey where worked at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home for 26 years retiring in 2014.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Irene.  She cherished spending time with family and friends. She found beauty in her flowers and enjoyed Angels, loved crocheting, word searches, puzzles, coffee, jewelry and watching high school sports.  Irene was known for that smile no matter what.  She had a heart of gold which showed through all her years of caring for others.

Irene was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Christian Mothers of Orrin, and the VFW Auxiliary in Harvey.

Irene is survived by her son Gary Marquart of Bismarck; daughters, Kathy (Alvin) Bruner of Drake and Shirley (Ron) Schatz of Anamoose; 9 grandchildren, Shane, Michelle (Chad), Derik (Holli), Chad (Anna), Stacy (Rick), Jason (Amber), Melissa (Jeremy), Brad (Tisa), and Trent; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Angie Oster of Carrington, Regina McNally of Fargo; Joe Goldade of Harvey; sister-in-law, Isabella Goldade of Harvey; many nieces and nephews.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Michael on August 28, 1999; great-granddaughter Shelby Bruner; sisters, Lena Eckman, Mary Goldade, Helen Goldade, and Jean Hoffert; brothers Ferdinand, Sebastian, Frank, Leonard, Leo and Conrad.
