Beloved mother and grandmother, Irene "Mickey" Keller, 89, of Harvey, died Monday, November 15, 2021, at St. Aloisius Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the church followed by a prayer service which will begin at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mickey was born on October 2, 1932, in Berthold, ND to Edward and Evelyn (Billeadue) Korte. She grew up in Berthold, graduating high school in 1950. Mickey went on to attend and graduate from Sisters of St. Francis Nursing School in Minot. Mickey and Robert "Bob" Keller were married on April 13, 1955, at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. They moved to and raised their family in Harvey. In addition to supporting Bob in his business, BJ Auto Sales, and caring for her 6 children, Mickey took pride in her work as a registered nurse at both the clinic and hospital in Harvey. Mickey and Bob enjoyed 45 years of marriage before Bob passed away on April 5, 2001.
Involvement in the community and staying active were important to Mickey. Upon "retirement" from her nursing career, she went on to volunteer and work for 20 years at Harvey High School. There she found joy in interacting with staff and students alike. Additionally, she served for over 25 years on the cleaning and maintenance team at the church. Mickey's Catholic faith and connection to the Church were central to how she lived. She was a lifelong learner, deepening her faith through bible studies, daily rosaries, Holy Adoration, and reading about the lives of Saints.
In addition to her other volunteer activities, Mickey was an active member of the Catholic Daughters, American Legion Auxiliary, Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club, and St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. What Mickey loved most was spending time with her family - celebrating holidays, playing games, and sharing her famous apple pies. She had a special connection with each of her dearly loved grandchildren. Some of her favorite moments were the quiet times she spent rocking her grandbabies and cherishing each one for their unique gifts.
Mickey is survived by her children, Bob and Julie (Senger) Keller of Harvey; Doug and Marianne (Vollmer) Keller of Harvey; Becky and Bill Marion of Bismarck; Dave and Sheila (Mack) Keller of Omaha; Mark and Kathy (Schmidt) Keller of Bismarck; Jean and Bob Rexine of Bismarck; 17 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mickey was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; daughter, Mary; grandson, Jacob Dale Keller; brothers, Arthur Korte, Virgil Korte, Lawrence "Bud" Korte, and Fr. Edward Korte; sisters, Elaine Halvorson, Sr. Angela Korte, and Mary Korte.
