Helen Meier, 93, Harvey, ND died Monday, June 12, 2017 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey, ND.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2017 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND.

Burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Selz, ND.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday with Rosary/Prayer services at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Helen was born July 11, 1923 in rural Benson County near Wellsburg, ND to Joseph F. and Anna (Thomas) Keller. She completed 8 years of education in a rural Benson County School near Wellsburg. There were 3 daughters and 4 sons in the family. The girls were the oldest and they did the same work that was required, outside and inside, that most farm children did in that era. The Great Depression and the Dust-Bowl added to the difficulties during that time. Helen married George T. Meier in 1943 at St. Anthony's Church in Selz, ND. She taught her children to take pride in their work by doing it well.  They lived on the original Meier farm near Selz, ND until 1969, when they sold it, and moved to Harvey. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters.

She made many friends during the years she was employed by St. Aloisius Hospital and Nursing Home. She enjoyed working with all of the "girls." After she retired from there she volunteered in the beauty shop at the nursing home. These were memorable times because she enjoyed the people.  Her group of lady friends, who played cards and Rummikub with her, were all special to her.

She attended every graduation of her grandchildren whether in AZ, ND, SD, or WA. The biggest travel adventure she undertook was the trip to Rome, Portugal and Spain with a group from the Catholic Diocese. She enjoyed the trip, but was glad to call North Dakota home!

She is survived by a son, Terry (Mary) of Spokane, WA, five daughters, Marion (Bob) Klein of Rapid City, SD, Claudia (Gary) Volk of Fargo, ND, Connie Martell of Gilbert, AZ, Jane Meier of Laveen, AZ, and Leann Meier of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Wilfred (Eva) Keller of Harvey, ND and Thomas Vernon Keller of Los Banos, CA. She has 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, James, and a great-grandson, along with two sisters and two brothers.

Helen's family wishes to express their appreciation to the St. Aloisius Nursing Home staff for the loving care provided to their mother.

Memorials are preferred to the St. Aloisius Serenity Garden Fund  or the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery General Fund.
