Helen Fritchie, 86, Harvey formerly of Hurdsfield, ND died on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.
Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Helen was born on February 21, 1930 in Jamestown, ND. She was the daughter of Lawrence Franklin and Lucille (Thorne) Fritchie. Helen grew up on the family farm north of Hurdsfield. She attended school in Hurdsfield and graduated from high school there in 1948. She attended two years of college at Valley City State College and received her teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools in the Hurdsfield area. Helen returned to Concordia College in Moorhead and received her Bachelor's of Arts Degree in teaching. She taught in public schools in South Dakota and Minnesota. She returned to the farm in the late 1970's and participated in farming which included raising sheep after the death of her father. She lived on the farm with her mother and brother Darwood. After their deaths she farmed with her sister Neva and brother-in-law Arlo, until retirement. She moved to Harvey in 2008. She entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in 2014.
Helen was a member Faith Lutheran Church in Harvey. She was passionate about genealogy and was a member of the James River Genealogy and Minot Genealogy groups. She was a longtime member of the Hillside Homemakers Club, Red Hat Society, Sons of Norway and the local retired teachers association. She served as the Crystal Lake Township Tax Assessor for twenty years. Helen was an artist and displayed many of her paintings at local art shows and was a member of the local arts organization.
Helen is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Neva and Arlo Bodin of Casper, WY; two nieces, Stephanie (Brian) Voss and Shannon Bodin; a great niece, Elizabeth Voss and a great nephew, Luke Voss.
Helen was preceded in death by parents and her brother, Darwood Fritchie.
