Hazel Berve 95 of Harvey died Saturday September 4, 2010 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Bethany Lutheran Church, Harvey on Wednesday Sept. 8 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be held at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery rural Harvey.

Hazel was born on December 11, 1914 in Hillsboro, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Ole and Johanna (Evanson) Olson. Hazel grew up and attended rural school near Hillsboro. As a young woman she worked for area farm families. Hazel married Nels Solberg in 1933 they lived and farmed near Heimdal, North Dakota. Nels died on April 29, 1961. Hazel married Casper Berve in November of 1963 they lived in Harvey. Casper died in February of 1967. Hazel continued to live in Harvey. She entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey in April 2010. Hazel was a very active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family as well as cooking, baking, gardening, quilting, and she loved animals. She also enjoyed listening to local sporting events on the radio. Hazel is survived by one son, Norlin Solberg of Harvey; daughter, Janice Baum-Johnson of Atascadero, CA; 4 grandchildren, Terry Solberg, Fessenden, Gaylene Schindler, Harvey, Todd Solberg, Fargo, Rich Schimke, Atascadero, CA; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Selma Dullum of Hillsboro, ND; Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Nels Solberg and Casper Berve; grandchildren, Norlin Solberg Jr., Tim Solberg, Rayetta Schimke; brothers, Harry Olson, Edmund Olson, Leonard Olson; sisters, Lilly Haugerud, Myrtle Elton, Orrel Schlichtmann.
