Harold Alexander, 81, rural Esmond, ND died Saturday, September 26, 2015 near his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 30 at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Harold Roy Alexander was born June 26, 1934 in the Lincoln Valley area north of Denhoff, ND. He was the son of Gottlieb and Mathilda (Opp) Alexander. He grew up in the Lincoln Valley area and attended rural schools. He farmed with his parents for several years and worked on road construction in Montana. Harold married Mary Lou Murray on December 29, 1961 in McClusky, ND. They lived near Buffalo Lake in southern Pierce County. The family ran a dairy operation until 2008. They continued to raise small grains and beef cattle. Harold also owned and operated a wholesale fishing bait business known as "Harold's Bait" and supplied many area bait retailers. He was a licensed explosives consultant and dynamited many trees, rocks, beaver dams, and building structures. Living on the shores of Buffalo Lake allowed him to hunt and trap.

Mary Lou passed away on October 26, 1992.

Harold was very much of a family man. He helped out wherever he could, teaching and guiding family members about farming, family and appreciation of nature's gifts. He had a strong faith in the Lord and reminded his children and grandchildren to follow God's teachings. He loved to dance and visit with his family and many friends. Harold never retired.

Harold was a member and past council vice president of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond. He served on the Esmond School Board and on the Alexanter Township Board. He was a member of the Wells Eagle Aerie in Harvey.

Harold is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Theresa) of Devils Lake, ND, Steven (Fay) of Minot, ND, Lance of Esmond, ND; six grandchildren, Amber Rotramel, Paige, Parker, Matthew, Markelle and Maura Alexander; brother, Elmer Alexander of Minot; sisters, Violet Emineth and Lucine Liebelt both of Bismarck; friends, Linda Lamm of Harvey and Corlee Schuster of Carrington.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
