Obituary

Hannelore Eckart, 81, of Harvey, ND formerly of Jamestown died Thursday, May 19, 2022 at her home in Harvey.  Private graveside services will be held in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.

Hannelore was born on October 1, 1940 in Elbing, Germany to Otto and Anna Krause.  The family lived in Poland for awhile during World War II.  Hannelore spoke of the hardships her family endured and the devastation witnessed as the family returned to Germany before the war ended. She attended school and grew up in Germany. Life was difficult after the war but she found employment in the hotel and restaurant industry working as a server for 22 years.  She had been living and working in Erlensee, Germany when she met Larry Eckart, who was serving in the US Army in Germany.  Hannelore and Larry were married on July 19, 1985 in Erlensee and continued to live there.  They were kept busy with buying and selling items at flea markets and Hannelore became more interested in doing crafts.  They moved to Jamestown, ND in 1992.  Hannelore became a United States citizen on April 19, 2002.  They were retired but continued buying and selling at garage sales.  Woodworking became a common task with Hannelore finishing, staining, painting, and decorating or accessorizing the items they made.  She also crocheted, embroidered, quilted, and cooked.  Larry died on October 29, 2020 and Hannelore moved to Harvey where she lived in an apartment until her passing.

Survivors include nieces and nephews along with sisters-in-law, Joyce (Donald) Bentz of Jamestown, Marlene (Wes) Wixon of Hope, Carol (Fred) Martin of Jamestown, Marge (John) Wagenaar of Nevis, MN, Kathy (Larry) Grossman of Harvey, Judy Eckart of Anchorage, AK; four brothers-in-law, Don (Betty) Eckart of Jamestown, Allan Eckart of Scoby, MT, Robert (Gloria) Eckart of Brea, CA,  Steve (Kathy) Eckart of Harvey.  Hannelore was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Anna; husband, Larry; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vernice and Alvin Art Faul; infant sister-in-law, Bonnie Eckart.

Memorials are preferred to the Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
