George Buchwitz, 92, Harvey, ND died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the St. Aloisius Hospital of Harvey.  Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran Church of Harvey on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.  Visitation will be on Sunday, August 7, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey.  Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery of Harvey.

George was born on February 1, 1930 in Harvey.  He was the son of Jacob and Rosina (Delzer) Buchwitz.  George grew up and attended school in Crystal Lake Township south of Harvey.  George enlisted in the army in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict.  He served in the 194 ^th Engineer Battalion in the 5 ^th Army.  George was honorably discharged in 1954.  He returned to Harvey and farmed with his father.  George married Loretta Huber on June 24, 1956.  After retiring from farming George worked for Susag Sand and Gravel and then was a county blade operator for Wells County for a time.  George was a driver for the Canadian Pacific transporting railroad crews for 20 years.  George loved children and loved to tease them.  George loved to produce large gardens and shared his vegetables with others.   George taught his children and grandchildren all about gardening.  George felt everyone should recycle.

George was a member of First Lutheran Church, Wells Eagles Arie, Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Harvey.  He was also a member of the Goodrich American Legion Post 56.

George is survived by his wife, Loretta; daughters, Nancy (Gregory) Rime, Debra (Bill) White; son, Tim (Debbie) Buchwitz; 7 grandchildren, Patrick Simonson, Mindy Piskur, Ronald White, RaeLynn Toon, Casey White, Tim Buchwitz Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Lula Fosberg.  George was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ricky, granddaughter, Kyla Korb, grandson, Trenton Buchwitz, brothers, Fred Mollendorf, Ed Delzer, Jake, Ervin, Richard, Buchwitz; sisters, Tillie, Martha, Pauline, Ruby, Virginia, and EllaMae.
