Gene Hoff, 81, Minot formerly of Granville was welcomed into heaven on Monday, November 22, 2021 at his Minot home,
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Goodrich with burial in the Goodrich City Cemetery.
Gene was born October 11, 1940 in Harvey, ND to Fred and Bertha (Dockter) Hoff. He grew up near Tuttle, North Dakota and went to a country school until the 8th grade when his family moved to Goodrich. In 1959, Gene met the love of his life, Patricia (Rhone). They married in June of 1960 and began their family soon after.
Gene took pride in everything he did. He worked as a farm laborer, and later on the oil field near Keen/Watford City. After graduating from auto body school in Bismarck, Gene devoted his time to fixing cars. After Gene and Patricia moved to a farm outside of Granville in 1986 he opened his own body shop in 1990, and continued working on a variety of vehicles until his retirement in 2008. Choosing to never really retire, and to fulfill his love for animals, Gene decided to start his own hobby farm. He loved all of his animals, including his horses, goats, rabbits, cats, chickens, peacocks, guineas, pigs, geese, ducks, emus, donkeys, and dogs Gracie and Juno, but his favorite were his sheep.
Gene loved music and dancing the polka. He loved nothing more than to take Pat 'to town' for a night of dancing. He preferred anything with an accordion, and had the ability to play the instrument by ear. Gene loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will remember his smile, his youthful energy, and his cowboy hat.
Gene is survived by his wife, Patricia, five of his children: Larry (Lana), Bobby, Wesley, Julie (David) Demke and Fred (Dustie), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon (Telman) Degner, Darlene (Allen) Hirschkorn, Kathie (Kenny) Garris. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Sheryle Boppre, his sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Eugene Kratz.
