Francis James Seefeld was born November 28, 1933 on the family farm outside of Selz, ND. He was the son of Arnold and Ida (Mertz) Seefeld. He grew up attending the New German #3 country school. Francis served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Seoul, South Korea from September 27, 1956 until July 10, 1958. Proudly occupying multiple positions, Francis' last role was as a battalion carrier, which included transporting messages, but also granted him the ability to make a pit stop at the local pastry shop every day. Francis met the love of his life Sally (Vetter) at Saint Anthony's catholic church, which they attended together, and their first date was to a dance in Orrin. Their love quickly grew, and they were married on September 18, 1961. Francis and Sally made their home on a farm northwest of Selz, where they welcomed two wonderful children, Gerard and Lisa. During those days Francis could frequently be found outside, either farming, fixing machinery, or tinkering in his machine shed. Francis and Sally frequently took evening drives to check on the crops or look for deer. The annual deer hunting opening weekend was one of Francis' favorite times of the year. Surrounded by family and friends, he enjoyed the nightly festivities and pinochle games almost as much as he enjoyed the actual deer hunting. Francis took his pinochle very seriously, being so good as to always remember every card that was played, and sometimes predicting what card you were about to play. Later in life, he enjoyed playing cards whenever he got the chance, whether that was at the Eagles club, or evenings with family and friends. If you were ever playing cards with him, you could always be sure that he'd be the last one to call it a night. Another love of Francis' was the accordion, which he started playing at 15 years old, mostly playing by ear. Later on, Gerard and Lisa joined him with his music and enjoyed playing at different events around the area. On Sundays, he could usually be found listening to the Sunday Polka Party. Francis and Sally also attended many polka fests over the years and made a lot of lifelong friends as a result. His faith was important to him. Spending time with family and friends was also very important to him, as he cherished these moments very much. After retiring from farming, Francis and Sally split their time between their apartment in Harvey and their farm. Sally passed away March 6, 2022. He was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Harvey.
