Frances Essig, 91, McClusky, ND died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake, ND. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church of McClusky on Thursday, (Oct. 7) at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of McClusky on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the McClusky City Cemetery.
Frances was born on September 6, 1919 on the family farm near McClusky. She was the daughter of William and Etta Faye (Jeffers) Heslop. She attended LaMont Township School and McClusky High School graduating in 1937. Frances married Hugo Essig on August 1, 1940 at the Heslop farm east of McClusky. Frances and Hugo farmed for 15 years east of McClusky. They moved into McClusky in 1955. Frances worked in McClusky school lunch room from 1960 through 1963, as McClusky City Treasurer for two years, as McClusky Park Board Clerk for several years and then as deputy for the Sheridan County Treasurer for nine years. Frances was active in 4-H work, Busy Bee Homemakers Club for over 25 years, and the Republican Party Committee. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of McClusky and was active in Sunday School and the United Methodist Woman's Group. She made cakes and flowers for weddings and did sewing for others as well as herself. They enjoyed traveling, fishing trips to Minnesota and spending time with family. Frances is survived by her husband of 70 years, Hugo of McClusky; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Duaine and Janis Essig of Glenwood, MN, Darrel and Renee Essig of Breckenridge, MN; seven grandchildren; Dacie Essig and Raeanna Essig both of Breckenridge, MN; Patty (Tony) Smith and their children, Eon, Alexandra, and Gabriel of St. Louis Park, MN, Andrew (Rebecca) Kvenvolden and their children, Alex, Nick, Chloe, Annabeth, Leif, Elliot, and Asher of Federal Way, Washington; Tony Andreen and his children Andrea, Michele, and Austin of Perham, MN; Terri (Mark) the their children Craig, Autumn, and Tanner of Glenwood, MN; James Andreen of Grand Rapids, MN; many nieces and nephews and cousins survive. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Charles and Wanda Jorgensen.
