Floyd
Wangen
April 18, 1935 – October 28, 2023
On October 28, 2023, Floyd Vernon Wangen (a.k.a. "Sweet Floydy") was welcomed into the arms of Jesus at the age of 88.
Floyd was born, in his home near Hurdsfield, ND, on April 18, 1935 to Marvel and Inga (Berg) Wangen. He was raised on a farm in rural Harvey, ND where he attended the Hillsdale (1-room) country school and then Harvey High school. In 1954, he proudly enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Groembach, Germany for most of his active duty.
He married his loving wife, VaughnDeLeath (Schmidt) in 1959 and they made their home in Harvey, ND, where he owned a Texaco gas station for a short time, built and moved houses for Great Plains Supply, worked at Genuine Parts, as well as drove taxi for the railroad. His true passion was his small engine repair business, where he could fix any type of engine. He also enjoyed playing pool, bowling, carpentry, gardening, working on his Little Giant tractor that he built, as well as working in his yard. Floyd's favorite past-time was to take his little 'buddies' (dogs) in his '69 Dodge pickup for a ride around town.
With undeniable dedication to serving others, he was always involved and volunteering in his community and local groups including March of Dimes, Jaycees, Harvey Fire Department for over 25 years (where he served as a Fire Chief for 3 years), Harvey VFW (Served as Commander and Manager), Eagles Club, and the First Lutheran Church. Most of all, he enjoyed socializing with his community of family and friends, especially with his 'Breakfast with the boys' coffee buddies. He will always be known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Sweet Floydy leaves behind his five children: Audrey (Larry) Toso, Floyd Jr. Wangen, Vernon Wangen, Lonnie (Michele) Wangen, and Doreen (Daryl) Brandt; as well as his grandchildren: Kayla Toso Boeser, Steven (Amy) Toso, Chelsea (Will) Partlow, Devon (Heather) Wangen, Dylan Brandt, Dallas Brandt, Alex Wangen and Nicholas Wangen and his great-grandchildren: Emberlyn Boeser, Brooklyn Toso, Eliose Toso, Freya Partlow and newborn Felicity Partlow; sisters-in-law, Gladys Bennet (Schmidt), Linda (Manley) Wangen and Mary Lou Schmidt; brother-in-law, Loren Hammer.
He is preceded in death by his wife VaughnDeLeath, his parents Marvel and Inga Wangen, and his sisters: Helen Hammer, Ivy Heisler and brothers: Manley, Franklin and Harold; brothers-in-law Eugene Heisler, Raymond, Chester and Gilbert Schmidt; sisters-in-law Miyoko Schmidt and Delores Schmidt.
