Evelyn Schlenker 88 of Harvey died Friday July 20, 2012 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey. Funeral services will be held at the Vang Lutheran Church of Manfred on Monday July 23, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Burial will be held at the Manfred Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery of Manfred.

Evelyn was born on October 6, 1923 in Harvey, North Dakota. Evelyn was the daughter of Emil and Lydia (Mehrer) Pepple. Evelyn grew up and attended school in Manfred until the sixth grade. She then attended country school near Manfred until the eighth grade. As a young woman she worked on the family farm and for area neighbors. Evelyn married Jake Schlenker on October 10, 1941. They lived and farmed southwest of Manfred and in 1952 they bought a café and bar in Manfred. They enjoyed working in the restaurant business and visiting the local people. Jake died on November 4, 1975. Evelyn entered the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey in November of 1975. Evelyn enjoyed watching soap operas and the Chicago Cubs. She also enjoyed doing word search puzzles and Jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo and eating sunflower seeds.

Evelyn is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Jeanne Schlenker of Minnewaukan, ND; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Richard Muscha of Casselton, ND; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Schlenker of Durant, OK, DeVella Vik of Harvey. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jake; daughter, Patricia; and infant sister.
