Esther was born on September 10, 1927 on the family farm south of Anamoose, ND. She was the daughter of Emilia (Schaefer) and Fred Ammon, Jr. She attended country school and helped with the chores around the house and on the farm. Esther married Ervin Ziegler on March 30, 1947 in Anamoose. They lived and farmed in Sheridan County. They purchased and moved to an old rundown farmstead north of Pickardville, ND in 1959, which they rebuilt from the ground up. Esther was a very hard worker. Her green thumb helped to provide food for her family by always having a large garden, hand milking multiple dairy cows to not only put milk on the table for their five children but to also sell the cream. She raised chickens and sold eggs as well. Esther always looked forward to the visits from her grandchildren. In the summer some would stay with her for extended periods of time. She enjoyed cooking for her large family and never missed a meal with out very loudly saying "lunch time" to signal everyone to gather around the table. She was always the last to eat. Esther was a wonderful cook and if you left her house hungry, that was your own fault. There was never a meal without the most important part, homemade dessert with ice cream.. Ervin died on August 29, 1992. She was very active and independent and continued living on the farm until 2013 when a stroke forced her into moving to the Missouri Slope Nursing Home in Bismarck. Esther was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the Homemakers Club until that time. Her hobbies included spoiling her grandchildren, gardening, cooking, canning, and quilting. She also loved listening to old country music. Polkas and waltzes would always be playing on Sundays on her radio.  She was also known for having a large variety of sweet treats around the house - from baked goods to chocolate to a freezer full of frozen treats.

Esther passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on Monday, February 17, 2020 surrounded by her adoring family at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.

Esther is survived by three sons, Duane (Darlene) Ziegler of Bismarck, Dale (Jean) Ziegler of Bismarck and Don Ziegler of Sheridan, WY; two daughters, Diane Wolberg of Bismarck and Donna (Dennis) Kroll of Washburn; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Ernest Ammon; sister, Freda Rau.
