Esther Frey, 93, Harvey, ND died on Friday, December 09, 2016 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 14 at Faith Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Esther was born on June 27, 1923 in Bowdle, South Dakota, the daughter of Christopf and Lydia (Banick) Treft, the youngest child of eight. She lived in a sod house until her father died in 1930 and she moved to the Manfred, ND area with her family after her mother married Phillip Wagner in 1931. She attended school at Eigenheim #5 rural school and graduated from the eighth grade. Esther took two years of correspondence to continue her education. She married Adolph Frey on September 28, 1939 in Fessenden and they lived and farmed in the Manfred area before moving to the Martin area in 1943. Esther worked side by side with Adolph in their farming operation. She also worked at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey from 1956 until 1957 and then returned to the hospital in 1967 and worked until 1975. Adolph died on March 11, 1998 and Esther moved to Harvey in the fall of 1998.
Esther was a member of the Martin Methodist Church where she held many different offices and was a self taught pianist/organist for the church for over 50 years. Her faith in God was of utmost importance to her. Esther enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, embroidering, crocheting, table games, flowers, gardening, canning, and doing crafts. Esther was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, proud of her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her door was always open to welcome friends and neighbors with a cup of coffee and something to eat. Esther was a very generous, hard-working person with a heart of gold.
Esther is survived by her son, Kenneth (Nancy) Frey of Harvey; daughter, Joann (Clyde) Huber of Berthold; five grandchildren, Shannon (Jeremy) Harms, Marsha Huber (Rob Orts), Brian (Lyndsi) Huber, Lana (Dave) Eichhorn, Carmen (Jim) Froseth; six great-grandchildren, Addison Harms, Avery Harms, Allyson Huber, Tyler Huber, Keeley Eichhorn, Henry Eichhorn; son-in-law, Ron Hoffard of West Fargo; sister-in-law, Rose Frey of Harvey.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph, daughter, Sharon Hoffard; step-father, Phillip Wagner, brothers, Art Treft and Dan Treft; sisters, Annie Geist, Elsie Frey, Hilda Nelson, Margaret Fiechtner and Emma Weisenberger.
