Ervin Seibel Jr. 93, of Harvey died Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home of Harvey. Funeral services will be held at the Cornerstone Community Church South Campus on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery of Harvey.
Ervin was born on March 14, 1931, in Harvey. He was the son of Ervin and Ruby (Bich) Seibel. He grew up on a farm 13 south of Martin, North Dakota. Ervin attended first and second grade in a one room country school ¼ mile north of the farm. The family then moved to a farm 10 miles southwest of Harvey where he attended grades 3rd thru 8th in a one room school close to the homestead. Ervin graduated in 1950 from Harvey High School. While in high school he met Marilyn Heitmann and on August 31, 1952, they were married at the City Mennonite Brethren Church in Harvey. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Denver for 2 years while Ervin served in the 1-W service. After completion of his service, they moved back to Harvey to farm with his dad and brother until they moved into Harvey in 1986. Ervin and Marilyn were blessed with 3 children, Rick, Laurie, and Steve. Ervin retired from farming in the mid 1990's. Upon retiring, they enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and socializing with many of their friends.
Ervin was a member of the former Mennonite Brethren Church and the current Cornerstone Community Church where he was active as treasurer, served on church council, Sunday School Superintendent, Christian education chairman. He also sang in the church choir and male chorus. Ervin was treasurer for the Sunnyside Cemetery for 21 years. He served with the Gideons for many years and briefly with the Lions Club. Ervin served as a Wells County Commissioner for 4 years and was a Township supervisor. He was also a member of the Garrison Diversion Project.
Ervin is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 71 years; sons, Rick and Steve of Harvey, daughter, Laurie Seibel of Mandan; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; sister and brother-in-law, Mavis and Bill Kieper. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Florence Hagen and brother, Edward Seibel.
