Ervin E. Buchwitz, 94, of Carrington, ND formerly of Harvey died Saturday November 24, 2018 at the Golden Acres Manor in Carrington where he had moved to January of 2016.
A celebration of Ervin's life will be held next Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND. Burial will be in the Seventh-day Adventist Cemetery, Manfred, ND.
Ervin was born November 17, 1924 in rural Goodrich to Jacob and Rosena (Delzer)Buchwitz. He attended county school and helped on the family farm. Ervin was inducted during WWII November 13, 1944 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and served in Yamagata Honsu Japan. He was honorably discharged Dec. 28, 1945. He was decorated with an Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He reenlisted to serve as Supply Clerk from December 29, 1945 – July 5, 1947 with an honorable discharge from Point Fort Lewis, Washington
Ervin married Darlene Wagner June 29, 1949 in Fessenden, ND. They lived and farmed near Hurdsfield before moving to a farm south of Harvey in 1969. Ervin worked for Harvey Sand and Gravel and Nelson implement for several years. They moved to Maddock where Ervin and Darlene worked as custodians at the school. They also lived in Grand Forks and Manfred before moving to Carrington in 2002.
Ervin entered the Golden Acres Manor in January of 2016 where he resided until his death.
Ervin enjoyed watching westerns, playing Pinochle and Yahtzee.
Ervin is survived by three sons, Larry (Jackie) of Crystal, MN; Ken of Grand Forks, Ron (Vicky) of Pelican Rapids, MN; daughter, Pam Kraft of Carrington; 6 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister Lula of Casselton; Ella Mae of Jamestown and a brother George of Harvey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Darlene; grandsons, Joshua Lee Buchwitz and Steven Roerick; several brothers and sisters.
