Obituary

Erven Anhorn 85 of Harvey died Tuesday August 30, 2011 in his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 2 at Faith Lutheran Church which meets at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Harvey. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey. Burial will be held at the Sunnyside Cemetery of Harvey.

Erven was born on July 22, 1926 south of Harvey. He was the son of Gottlieb and Otilia (Tilly) Anhorn. Erven grew up and attended school in Rusland Township and helped his dad farm until 1946. He then married Inez Thon on November 13, 1946 in Fessenden and they moved to a farm in Pony Gulch Township during his farming years.

Erven worked with his brother-in-law Gordon Thon building houses from 1960 through 1969. In 1975 Erven and Inez built a new home in Harvey but still farmed with his son Jim until 1995 when he retired. Erven was the head baker for NuGrain Products Co. in Harvey, North Dakota from 1996 through 2002 during that time he notably baked bread for the National Governors Association when they met in North Dakota. Erven worked part time at the Warehouse Grocery of Harvey.

Erven served on the Pony Gulch School board and as a Township Supervisor for Pony Gulch. He also served on the Wells County ASCS Committee. Erven was a board member of the St. Petri church and a member of the church council of Trinity Bethany Lutheran Church in Harvey. He previously was a board member of the Sunnyside Cemetery. Erven enjoyed fishing and attending the Norsk Hostfest.

Erven is survived by two sons and daughters-in-laws, James and Harriet of Harvey, Richard and Rebecca of Minot; grandsons, Jason Anhorn and Joel Anhorn; great-grandsons, James and Nicholas and one step-great-grandson, Stephen Horgan.

Erven was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Inez; sisters, Esther Alexander and Gladys Werth; brothers, Arthur Anhorn and Raymond Anhorn.
