Obituary

Ernest Hanson, 80, of Minot formerly of Harvey died Sunday June 14, 2015 at the Manor Care Center of Minot.

Private services are being held. All relatives and friends of Ernest are invited to gather at the Eagles Club in Harvey at 12 noon on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

Ernest J. Hanson was born on August 2, 1934 in Kenmare, ND. He was the son of Ernest and Alice (Nelson) Hanson. He graduated from the Portal High School in 1952 and also completed welding and blueprint reading classes from Dunwoody Institute. He married Shirley Iverson on October 2, 1954 in Columbus, ND. They moved to Minneapolis, MN. Ernest finished his apprenticeship as a carman in 1958 and they moved to Harvey to start his railroad carreer. He worked in the Harvey yard for the Soo Line and Canadian Pacific Railroads. He was a member of the CP Rail Emergency Response Team. He retired as the Locomotive Foreman in 1996. He and Shirley moved to Minot in 1996 and he managed the South Point Terrace Apartments and the Woodridge Trailer Court for several years.

Ernest was a fifteen year Charter Member of the Harvey Ambulance Service. He was also a member of the Wells Eagles Aerie in Harvey and the Moose Lodge in Minot.

Ernest is survived by his wife, Shirley of Minot; sons, Mike (Donna) Hanson of Williston; Mark (Kelley) Hanson of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter, Shelly (Kevin) Hanson Stafford of Anamoose, ND; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Denise Hanson in 1959; sisters, Violet Ceglowski and Delores Berry.

Memorials are preferred to the Ann Carlson Center in Jamestown or the Harvey Ambulance Service.
