Emma Herr, 95, McClusky, ND died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the CHI St. Alexius Nursing Home in Garrison, ND.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, McClusky, ND.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.

Burial will be in the McClusky City Cemetery, McClusky, ND.

Emma was born on September 18, 1920 at Estuary, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was the daughter of John and Rosina (Huber) Kukert. At the age of 5 the family moved from Canada to a farm south of Kief, ND. She attended Strawberry Township School, the Denhoff High School at Denhoff and graduated from Kief High School in 1941. In 1941 Emma moved to McClusky and worked in the grocery store and at the city café. Emma married Alfred Herr on April 9, 1943. They started their marriage on a farm 15 miles north of McClusky and in 1986 retired and moved to McClusky. Alfred passed away on October 20, 1991. Emma lived in McClusky until April 27, 2001when she moved to the Quinco Apartments in Garrison. In 2013 she moved to the Garrison Hospital Nursing Facility until the time of her death.

Emma served as judge and clerk on the election board of Harris and Holmes Townships for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the women's group. She was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher and leader of the children mission group for many years. Emma was a member of the McClusky Senior Citizens and the Sheridan Memorial Home Auxiliary while residing in McClusky.

Emma loved to garden, read, fish and was known for her great cooking and baking. She also enjoyed blessing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with beautiful homemade quilts. Her most pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and in later years her great-grandchildren.

Emma is survived by her two sons, Elroy Herr of Garrison, Del Wayne (Carol) Herr of Burlington; daughter, Clariece (Dennis) Eslinger of Garrison; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie (Sam) Reiswig, McClusky, brother-in-law, Edwin (Louise) Herr of Bismarck, sisters-in-law, Alice (LeRoy) Lauer of McClusky and Darlene (John) Finstad of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous nieces and nephews.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred; brothers, William, Albert and Walter; sisters Melita Johnson, Rosie Johnson, Elvina Klingman, Alma Hagel.
