Ellen Sophia Jantzen (née Vorland)

1915 – 2010

Ellen, born at the farmstead near Wellsburg, ND will be given committal to her beloved prairie at the Bethania Lutheran Cemetery on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Shirley Teske officiating. Ellen was a longtime resident and business owner in the beauty industry in Valley City. It was during her final years she left her beloved State, and moved to Illinois to be with her daughter, Carol. Ellen's wishes were to be buried with her parents, Hans and Anna, and sister Ellen following the return of her ashes, having had made her own arrangements for the donation of her body to the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Predeceasing Ellen were her husband Willard "Red" Jantzen of Valley City, and son-in-law Cecil Dahl of Neponset, Illinois. Since Ellen's passing, her daughter, Carol Dahl of Neponset, Illinois, and son, Will Jantzen and daughter-in-law, Donna, both of Valley City have passed away. Ellen's sisters and brothers were Ellen Vorland, Stella Carlson, Arlie Tuttle, Kermit Vorland, Herbert Vorland, and Ruby Skinner. Only in the past month has Ellen's nephew David Vorland, formerly of Harvey, North Dakota crossed the divide.

Surviving Ellen are grand-daughters Sally Payne (Barry) of Peoria, Illinois and Stacy Belski (Tom) of La Salle, Illinois, and Ellen's 6 great-grandchildren in Illinois, and step-granddaughters Dawn, Cara (dec.), Cory, and Gaye Anderson of Valley City.
