Obituary

Eileen M. Martin died on her 88th birthday at her home surrounded by family and under the care of St. Alexius Home Care and Hospice. Eileen continued her giving nature even in death and donated her body to UND School of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held at Century Baptist Church, 205 Colt Avenue, on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

Eileen was born on October 23, 1923 in Goodrich, ND to Reinhold E. and Helen (Raeschke) Martin. She grew up in Goodrich and graduated from Goodrich High School in 1941. She worked on the Sheridan County Draft Board in McClusky for a time before moving to Bismarck. Eileen graduated from St. Alexius School of Nursing in 1945. She was a Registered Nurse and worked in California, Texas and Minnesota medical centers. Her medical training was put to use on several missionary trips which included Central America in Honduras and the Green Lake Baptist Conference Grounds in Green Lake, WI. She also filled in as a bank teller at First State Bank in Goodrich which was owned by her father. Eileen worked as a Registered Nurse at Midway Hospital in St. Paul, MN before moving back to Bismarck. She was employed by St. Alexius Medical Center where she worked in psychiatry for twenty six years before retiring in 1989. Eileen loved to travel and made trips to South America, Central America and Europe. She was a charter member of Century Baptist Church in Bismarck. Eileen lived an independent life in her home in Bismarck which she shared with her two dogs and two cats.

Those surviving and sharing in Eileen's life are Deb (Steve) Hinrichs, Omaha, NE, Coleen (Tim), Wegner, Rosemount, MN, Pam (Glenn) Stading, Apple Valley, MN, Doug Martin, Bismarck, ND, Bonnie (Scott), Bismarck, ND, Ron (Nancy) Unruh, Payson, AZ, Barbara Elzy, New Castle, CA, Candy (Tony) Hawkins, Dixon, IL, Marlys Unruh, Moline, IL, Lenora Raeschke, Carson, ND, 20 great nieces and nephews, 18 great-great nieces and nephews, and 21 special first cousins.

Eileen is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Norman, sister, Adeline Unruh, and nephew Paul Unruh.

Memorials preferred to St. Alexius Home Care and Hospice, 900 East Broadway, Bismarck, ND or Central Dakota Humane Society, 2104 37th Street, Mandan, ND.
