Obituary

Edwin Herr, 93 of Bismarck, ND formerly of McClusky died Friday, October 27, 2017 at his home in Bismarck.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 31 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Bismarck.

Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the McClusky City Cemetery, McClusky, ND.

A reception at the McClusky Community Center will take place after the graveside service.

Edwin was born on May 13, 1924 on the family farm north of McClusky to August and Tillie (Hoffer) Herr.  He attended the Harris Towship rural school.  Edwin entered the army on October 22, 1944 and took his basic training at Mineral Springs, Texas. While in basic training, Edwin married Linda Triebwasser, daughter of Sam and Tina (Vix) Triebwasser on January 13, 1945 in Mineral Springs, Texas. Shortly after the wedding, Linda returned to McClusky and Edwin was sent to Luzon, Philippines, to serve on the front lines with the 37 th Infantry Division.  After the big bombs were dropped and the war was over, Edwin was sent to Okinawa as part of the military occupation forces until his honorable discharge on November 29, 1946.  He returned to McClusky to resume farming and ranching with his wife, Linda and raise their daughter Aleece, who was born December 2, 1947.  They rented a farm north of McClusky until 1959, when they purchased a ranch seven miles east of McClusky on Highway 200.  Linda passed away on December 11, 1980.

Edwin was a member of the United Methodist Church in McClusky and served on the church council and as Sunday School Superintendant.

Edwin married Louise (Melton) McCleary on July 9, 1983 in Marion, ND.  They lived in McClusky from 1984 until 2006 when they moved to Bismarck.  They spent 14 winters in Mesa, AZ.  While living in Bismarck he enjoyed drinking coffee with friends at McDonald's and woodworking.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Louise of Bismarck; daughter, Aleece (Jim) Rogers of Lawrenceville, GA; two grandsons, Elliott (Julie) Rogers and children, Ian, Colin, Emma and Cooper of Bogart, GA; Eric (Melinda) Rogers and daughter Cecelia of Atlanta, GA; step children, Michael (Cindy) McCleary and children, Katie and Maggie of Fargo, ND, Gail (Greg) Scallon of Gillette, WY and children, Lance (Laurel) Scallon, Alivia and Sylvie; Dustin (Danielle) Scallon and children Jaycee, Trigg and Taylor; Donald (David) McCleary of Denver; sister, Darlene Finstad of Lake Park, MN, Alice (LeRoy) Lauer of McClusky; nieces and nephews.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alfred, Louie, Rueben and Clarence; sisters, Ida Neff and Bertha Boelter; step granddaughter Krista McCleary, brother-in-law John Finstad.

Memorials are preferred to the McClusky City Cemetery or to Sanford Hospice.
