Edward C. Piatz, 86 Harvey, ND died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at his Bismarck residence.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 1 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, ND.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with prayer services at 7 p.m. in Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Edward was born on July 2, 1926 near Esmond, ND. He was the son of Michael and Johanna (Keller) Piatz. He grew up near Fillmore, ND and attended school there. Ed helped his father on the family farm before entering the Army where he served in Korea in 1949. He returned to North Dakota and was employed by some local businesses. Eddy became employed by the Soo Line Railroad in 1951 and retired in 1989 after 38 years as a brakeman and conductor. Edward was united in marriage to Marlys Boese on May 2, 1957 in Harvey. He and Marlys continued to live in Harvey during his retirement. He lived at Van Hook on Lake Sakakawea where he spent the summers fishing with his friends and family. Eddy also enjoyed bowling, shooting pool and playing cards. Edward was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Wells Eagles Aerie # 3080 all in Harvey.
Edward is survived by his wife, Marlys; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Dean Piatz of Minot, ND, Dale (Maria) Piatz of Tacoma, Washington, James Piatz of Williston, ND; two daughters and two sons-in-law, JoAnn and Rick Randall of Minot, ND, Nancy and Steve Gallagher of Bottineau, ND; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, John Piatz of Minot, ND.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas; son-in-law, Gregory Sauber; grandson, Lee Randall; brothers, Frank, Wendelin, Mike Jr.; sisters, Lena Neis, Kathryn Hoffart, Agnes Gries.
Eddy passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at his home in Bismarck.
May Eddy's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God. Rest in Peace. Amen.
