Ed was born on November 17, 1931 in Harvey, ND to John and Helen (Lesmeister) Braunagel. Ed grew up in Central North Dakota near the Selz/Harvey area where he farmed with his family. Ed went to Harvey School until the 8th grade, but later in life he obtained his GED which allowed him to excel in his professional life as Superintendent of the City of Harvey's Water Treatment Plant. Ed worked many jobs in his life, farming, construction (Harvey Sand & Gravel), and Maintainer for Wells County, and the City of Harvey where he worked for over 20 years. Ed was jack of all trades and was able fix anything as small as a bike to as big as construction equipment. In retirement Ed loved to play and make FastTrack boards for family and friends. On April 11, 1956, Edward married Frances (Haman) Braunagel and they farmed on the Braunagel family farm until 1965 when they moved into Harvey and resided there until September of 2003, at this time they moved to Bismarck, ND to be closer to family. Ed had many interests in life which included bowling, his motorcycle, camping and fishing, gardening, playing cards, traveling and especially spending time with family and friends. Ed could start a conversation with anyone and always found something interesting to talk about. After retiring from the City of Harvey, Ed and Frances decided to try the snowbird route and purchased a park model trailer in Apache Junction, AZ. They spent 6 months there every winter enjoying the warm weather and good friends they met at the park they lived in and spent the other 6 months in ND fishing, gardening and spending time with friends and family.
Ed and Frances belonged to St. Cecilia Catholic church in Harvey and Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bismarck where Ed was involved with the Knights of Columbus and received the rank of 3rd degree. Ed was also a 67 year member of the Wells Eagles Aerie in Harvey where in 2022 he became the oldest living Charter member.
