Edna Palma Tebelius' Obituary
Services for Edna Tebelius will be held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Harvey on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Edna P. Tebelius, 85, of Harvey, passed away Jan. 27, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona, with her three children by her side. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but leaves them with many great memories.
Edna was born March 16, 1927 in Harvey. She was the daughter of Helmer and Pearl (Holter) Smestad. Not one for slowing down, Edna graduated from Harvey High School in three years in 1944. She then attended Minot State Teachers College, where she obtained her Standard Teaching Certificate. Edna started teaching in rural schools around Harvey.
Edna married Ervin Tebelius on August 17, 1948. She took time off from teaching to have children. She returned to her beloved profession in 1956 for three years teaching at Manfred and Wellsburg. Edna and her husband built the Rugby Livestock Auction in 1960, which they sold in 1962. They purchased the Harvey Livestock Auction in 1962 and operated the auction along with their farming operation until 1992.
In 1966, Edna resumed her teaching career in Harvey and proudly obtained her B.S. Degree in Education from Minot State University in 1971. Edna served one term on the Harvey School Board.
Edna was a longtime member of the Harvey Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Edna is survived by daughter, Diane Tebelius, and her husband, Rob McCallum, of Bellevue, WA; sons, Dean Tebelius of Phoenix, AZ and Mark Tebelius and his wife, Linda of Stillwater, MN; grandchildren, Brock Tebelius of Maplewood, MN, and Lindsay Tebelius of Stillwater, MN; great-granddaughter, Sienna Tebelius of Maplewood, MN; sisters-in law, Mary (Dale) Smestad, of Bismarck, ND; Doris (Lyle) Smestad of Mesa, AZ; Darlene (Tebelius) Morford of Plano, TX; and brother-in-law, Jack (Jane Tebelius) Hayes of Denver, CO.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin, on Aug. 23, 2011; her parents; brothers, Lyle Smestad and Dale Smestad; sister in-law, Jane (Tebelius) Hayes; and brother-in-law, Ken Morford.
