Duane "Rusty" Lasher, 93 of McClusky, ND died Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the McClusky Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday Feb. 27 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. at the McClusky Baptist Church. Burial will be in the spring in the McClusky City Cemetery.
Duane Norman "Rusty" Lasher was born November 9, 1932, on the family farm southeast of McClusky. He was the son of Norman and Anna (Nigrin) Lasher. He grew up on the family farm and attended the nearby Lamont Township rural school. He graduated from the McClusky High School in 1953 and later attended NDSU before joining the Army. He married Virginia Kessler on January 15, 1954, in McClusky. They lived at Fort Cambell, Kentucky where he was an Army cook, helping prepare daily meals for 1500 soldiers. The cooking experience gained in the Army helped him throughout his life. Duane was honorably discharged in 1956, and they moved to a farm south of McClusky. Duane and Virginia had two children. Their oldest was daughter Debra Lynn who died in 1969 and a son Todd. The family lived and farmed in McClusky area. Virginia died on July 23, 1988. After her passing Rusty continued being engaged in his community. He served on the Sheridan County Social Service Board, Rural Fire Department, board member for Capital Electric for 31 years; and was very active in the McClusky Baptist Church, where he held numerous offices and sang in many quartets, duets and as a soloist. Rusty then met Lois Vangsness and they were married in 1994 in Leonard, ND. They lived in McClusky where he continued with his farming and ranching activities.
Rusty is survived by his wife Lois of Fargo; son Todd (Vickie) Lasher of McClusky; 4 granddaughters, Laura (Jay) Kulsrud of Grace City, ND, Emily (Scott) Stroh of McClusky, Rachel (Nick) Parson of McClusky, Brittany (Brennan) Price of Center, ND; 10 great-grandchildren, Lane, Tanner and Ty Kulsrud; Quaid and Cora Stroh; Emmett, Maizy, and Raegan Parson; Koy and Tinlee Price; brother, Arnold (Ruth) Lasher of Sacramento; brother-in-law, Arlois Bauer of Lebanon, Oregon, sister-in-law, Alyce Kessler of Bismack; Lois's children, Kevin (Char), Laurie (Roger), Karen (Jeff), and Bruce and grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rusty was preceded in death by his parents; wife Virginia, daughter Debra Lynn, four sisters, Elaine Lasher, Norma (Bauer) Mueller, Eunice Bauer, Lana Weichmann.
