Douglas Dale
Cantleberry
February 15, 1955 – October 29, 2023
Douglas Cantleberry, 68, Fessenden, ND died on Sunday, October 29, 2023 in Fessenden. Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran Church of Harvey on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.
Doug was born on February 15, 1955 to Charles and Marvel (Wetherbee) Cantleberry in Little Falls, MN, the third of four children. As a boy he was precocious and always had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He always had that twinkle in his eye with a hint of mischief when he laughed. As the third boy of the family, he helped with the farm they grew up on and worked for neighbors to make a little extra spending money.
Doug attended Scandia Valley country school until 6th grade and then attended school at Pillager, MN until 12th grade. He then lived in various towns in NW Minnesota and North Dakota working on the railroad, farming, and in the construction industry until he settled in Fessenden, ND.
Doug was an amazing mechanic and would spend hours working on various vehicles or projects. Like his father, he was a jack of all trades and master of many, diagnosing an issue and fixing it the first time. He was always fair to those he helped.
Doug took great pride in a good day's work, and never seemed to slow down. He always had his mind on the go, and that kept his body moving, constantly working on something, or driving here and there. He enjoyed ice fishing and snowmobiling in the winter and during warmer weather enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was also an avid Minnesota sports fan.
Doug very much loved his children and grandchildren, proudly visiting and attending as many of their events as possible and helping them in any way he could. He enjoyed having long conversations with friends and family. "Catching up", reminiscing and current events were some topics he loved to discuss.
Doug is lovingly remembered and survived by his mother, Marvel, brother Michael Cantleberry of Galesburg, IL, and sister Connie (Don) Lumley of Big Lake, MN; sons Brent (Savanah) Cantleberry of Bismarck, ND and Kyle Cantleberry of Minot, ND; and daughters Rhoda (Wesley) Sherman of Meridian, TX, Brittany Cantleberry of Fargo, ND, Amber Lien of Harvey, ND, and Lacey Cantleberry of Harvey, ND. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Susan Wagner of Tucson, AZ and step-daughter Monica Wagner of Tucson, AZ.
Also dear to his heart were his 15 Grandchildren: Chance, Brooklyn, Kaleb, Haden, Wyatt, Ella, Skyler, Avery, Farrah, Ruby, Harmony, Sylas, Madelyn, Henry, Foster; and 4 Great-grandchildren Liam, Halle, Sagen, and Holden.
Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, father Charles and brother Steven.
