Dorothy "Dottie" Schmeets, 89, Harvey, ND died Monday, September 3, 2018 at her home in Harvey with her daughters by her side.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at the First Lutheran Church, Harvey, ND.  Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday  followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.

Dorothy Elaine was born on December 26, 1928 in Harvey, ND.  She was the youngest of ten children born to Henry and Clara ( Lystne ) Noss.  She grew up in Harvey and attended high school there.  She began working as a waitress at the Kirton's Café and then the Harvey Café.  Dorothy married Edward C. Schmeets on December 1, 1948 in Harvey. They resided in Anamoose, ND for a short time. Four children were born to this union, Elaine, Randy, Laurie and Judy.  In addition to living in Harvey for most of her life, the family also lived in Minneapolis from 1970 to 1975.  Her husband Edward passed away on August 8, 1986.

Dottie was a homemaker for most of her life and spending time with family was most important to her.  She enjoyed her beloved cat - Butterscotch, playing cards, birdwatching, reading, watching TV, being a Vikings Fan and going out for lunch or supper. Dottie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Harvey.

Left to mourn her passing but keep her memory forever in their hearts are her daughters, Laurie (Kim) Dietz of Carrington, Judy Kennedy (David Ellingford) of Heimdal; grandchildren,  Tammy (Dan) Matt of St Cloud MN, Jared Ash of Blaine, MN, Stacey Ash of Minneapolis, MN, Tara (Dana) Froemming of Fargo, Tessa (Chad) Weckerly of Hurdsfield; 12 great-grandchildren, Reagan, Brynn, Elise, Benjamin, Clara, Oliver, Jon, Chris, Sarah. Madison, Michael, and Alyssa. seven great-great-grandchildren; Brianna, Aubrey, Zach, Josh, Jayden, Emerson and Kaiden; son-in-law, Jerry Ash of Tofte, MN.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward, daughter Elaine Ash in 1994, son Randy in 2017; and nine brothers and sisters.
