Dorothy Kost, 93 of Harvey passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home, Harvey.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Harvey.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.
Burial will be in the Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, ND.
Dorothy Kost was born October 11, 1920. She was the daughter of Roland and Miriam (Iwan) Brower. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. She graduated from Harvey High School in 1937 and attended Minot State College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in the rural school she had attended as a child.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Anton "Tony" Kost on October 10, 1943. They lived on a farm near Martin for a brief time before moving to Harvey. She worked at J. C. Penney Co. for five years before resuming her teaching career. She taught in Anamoose for three years, Harvey for eight years and retired from teaching in 1978.
Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Harvey. She was very active in the Eagles Auxiliary and held many local offices. She served as State President, North Central Regional President and represented the local, state and regional Eagles Auxiliary at many national conventions.
Dorothy loved to play cards, crochet, read, play bingo and watch "Wheel of Fortune." One of her favorite pastimes was visiting grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by 3 daughters; Judy (Jerry) Keller of Dickinson, Carol (Wes) Miiller of Rugby, Nancy (Terry) Lockrem of Minot; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister, Shirley McLaughlin; brother, Robert Brower; grandson, Philander Kirk; and great-grandson, PK Kirk.
