Dorothy Goldsmith Haugen, Fargo, ND formerly of the Tuttle area died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey. Private interment services in the Tuttle City Cemetery will be held at a later date. Arrangements with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Dorothy Virginia Haugen was born on August 27, 1920 in Tuttle, ND. She was the daughter of Milton Olive (Everett) Goldsmith. Dorothy grew up in Tuttle and graduated from Tuttle High School. Dorothy attended Valley City College and received her teaching degree. She taught in Audobon, MN. In 1941 she married Glenn L. Haugen and they moved to Brookings, South Dakota and she taught there. While her husband was in the service during WII she worked at the Hanford Project near Richland, WA. They moved Tuttle in 1945 and then to Maryland. She was an elementary teacher in Maryland retiring in 1978. Glenn died in 1979 and she later married Charles McMullen in 1982 and he died in 1987. She moved to Barnesville, MN in 1989 and then to Fargo in 1995. Dorothy moved to Harvey on April 12, 2011 and was hospitalized at the St. Aloisius Medical Center.
Dorothy was a member of the League of Woman Voters in Maryland. She ran for North Dakota House of Representatives in 2000.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Diane Haugen of Harvey, ND; two grandchildren, Brian Lindamood of Anchorage, Alaska, Elden Lindamood of Duluth, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren, Helen, Allister, Ian, Oliver.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Dale Goldsmith, Ivan Goldsmith, Lawrence Goldsmith; sister, Ione Goldsmith.
