Doris Axt, 85, McClusky, ND died Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the CHI Community Memorial Hospital in Turtle Lake.  The service will be streamed Saturday at 10 a.m. on the Assembly of God Church, McClusky facebook page.  A link will be pasted here as soon it is available.

Private services will be held at the Assembly of God Church in McClusky with a PUBLIC graveside service scheduled for Saturday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westheim Cemetery, McClusky.  The directions from McClusky are four miles north, two miles west and half mile south.

The Public Visitation following CDC guidelines will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.  There will also be a public reception in the McClusky Park after the graveside service on Saturday.

Doris Leona Melom was born on December 3, 1934 in McClusky.  She was the daughter of Millard and Caroline (Bonnet) Melom.  She grew up on the family farm north of McClusky and attended country school.  While attending the McClusky High School, she lived in town with relatives and graduated in 1953.  Doris married Leon Axt on June 14, 1953 in a country church near McClusky.

They retired from farming in 1997 and moved to Goodrich.  Leon died on November 23, 2010.  Doris moved to McClusky in 2014.  Doris loved to travel and visit with her many friends and relatives.  In her spare time she enjoyed puzzles, crossword puzzles and playing dominoes.  She enjoyed fishing locally and would go crabbing on the west coast when visiting relatives.  She was also quite adventurous.  She learned to roller skate with her children when she was in her forties.  Doris ziplined and rode a stand up scooter in recent years.

Doris was a member of the Assembly of God Church in McClusky.

Doris is survived by her son, Gary (Patricia Burns) of Wilton; Leona (Richard) Lochthowe of Minot, Patricia (Frank) Ryan of Sequim, WA, Gail Murphy of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Faye Axt of Harvey, ND, Dora (John) Ofsthun of Granville, ND, Holly (Terry) Roubal of McClusky; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Donna Axt of Helena, Montana, Luella Wahl of Medicine Lake, WA, Sharon (Alfred) Grosz of Fargo, Twilla (Glen) Zinke of Minot and Loretta (Reinold) Zinke of Bismarck.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Todd; grandchild, Glorya Murphy; infant brother, Reuben Melom; son-in-law, Bryan Murphy; brother, Loren and sister-in-law Oralie Melom; brother Marvin and sisters-in-law Marjorie E. Melom and Marjorie A. Melom; brothers-in-law, Eddie Wahl and Alvin Axt.

Memorials are preferred to the Westheim Cemetery.
