Donald Weninger, 92 of Fargo formerly of Anamoose and Harvey died Thursday, July 9, 2026 at a Fargo Care Center. Funeral services will be held at the St. Francis Xavier’s Catholic Church of Anamoose on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Prayer service will be on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home of Harvey.

Donald R. Weninger was born on February 2nd, 1934, in Anamoose, ND to Joseph and Mary (Gagne) Weninger. Don grew up in a farm family as one of eight siblings. He built close relationships with his brothers and sisters as they shared daily tasks and life experiences. He graduated from Anamoose High School in 1952. Don enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1957, and completed his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. He remained an active member of the Guard, serving until 1964.

Don married Carolyn Delzer on June 7th, 1969. They lived in Anamoose while he continued to farm with his youngest brother Joe. Don and Carolyn had three children Jonathon, Darin, and Joan. Don and Carolyn were very active in many organizations, especially supporting school activities. Carolyn passed away on April 12th, 1984.

Don married Rose Hoffart on November 21st, 1998. They enjoyed their time on the farm near Selz hosting family and friends for holidays, hunting, and socializing. They kept themselves busy working on projects outside and making many batches of “Donnie’s Recipe” deer sausage. Rose passed away on October 10th, 2011.

Don married Idell Lesmeister on March 8th, 2014. They lived in Harvey, ND. Don and Idell adored spending time with close family members and many friends. They were involved in church, Harvey Eagles events, gardening, lake visits, and traveling. Idell passed away on October 2nd, 2024.

Don was known for his love of the outdoors. He spent his time fishing, hunting, and playing golf as much as possible. He was actively involved in bowling and continued to play golf well into his late eighties. Don was also dedicated to an early morning workout that he had done daily for over 35 years of; 50 pushups, 50 sit-ups, and 50 squat thrusts.

He was an Anamoose Volunteer Firefighter and Hunter Safety Instructor. He was active in Anamoose Wildlife Club, Trap Shooting, and Bowling league. Harvey Eagles Club Member, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Board, St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Member (4th Degree), Harvey and Drake Golf Club Member. In his final years of life in Fargo he enjoyed attending soccer games, telling jokes, playing pinochle, and bingo.

Don is survived by his sons, Jon (Mandy) Weninger; Darin (Karen) Weninger; daughter, Joan Weninger; grandchildren, Taylor and Jarrod; Jared, Serena, and Mason; Tiauna, Ja’Kye, and DJ; great grandchildren, Amari, A’riyah, Alaya, and Zavion; brother, Joe (Rose) Weninger; sisters, Marie Boyle and Anna Calkins; brother-in-law, Jerome Peerboom; sister-in-law, Carol Weninger; and many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Peter and Edward; sisters, Helen Marsh and Dorothy Peerboom; brothers-in-law, Don Boyle, Dean Calkins, and James Marsh; sister-in-law Geraldine Dockter Weninger; several nieces and nephews. And by his three cherished wives Carolyn, Rose, and Idell who brought great joy to his life.
